We recently helped a female racegoer lead the field in the fashion stakes during this year’s Ladies Day at the historic Kelso racecourse in Scotland.
Elizabeth Flood’s ‘Pimms hat’, which scooped Best Hat on Ladies Day on 29 May, featured a jug tray created from Parapan, a unique material used in furniture and interior design.
Parapan is the original and best quality high-gloss, solid acrylic material – manufactured to the highest possible specifications to ensure solid colour runs all the way through and high gloss is on both sides. It can also be thermoformed into bespoke curves.
We were asked to help create the hat by Alistair and Elizabeth Flood, a couple from Richmond in North Yorkshire, after they were inspired by their Parapan kitchen.
Nigel Mertens our Managing Director said: “Because Parapan is stylish, durable and easy to maintain, it is popular in bathroom and kitchen design and regularly specified for commercial applications, as well as specialist furniture pieces. But this is the first time we’ve been asked to help create something for the fashion industry!”
“Parapan is extremely workable as it can be thermoformed into curves and machined like wood, so was the ideal material for creating this unique and, now award-winning, hat. It’s also moisture-resistant, so perfect for handling inclement weather at outdoor events!”
Elizabeth Flood commented to say “Our kitchen looks as good now as it did the day it went in five years ago and thought it would be the ideal material for my Pimms-inspired hat. The hat was a great success and took first prize, winning a bouquet of flowers, a bottle of champagne and a £250 voucher, as well as many appreciative comments and a few offers to purchase.”
